Chrysanthemum Pinot Noir is made in the memory of Sumiko Haneta, the matriarch of the family that has given our winery facility a home. For more than 50 years, our winery building was a packing warehouse for ‘Mums grown with painstaking attention to detail by Sumiko’s daughter and son-in-law.
Made from Lester, Saveria, Split Rail and Dalardi vineyards, Chrysanthemum’s signature is that she sees extended sur lie aging, for 18 months total, with additional lees added from all other Pinot fermentations. Lees contribute texture to the mouthfeel as they break down in the barrel, lending a creamy back note to the wine.
From Wine Enthusiast: “A bottling in honor of longtime Aromas nursery owner Sumiko Haneta, this blend is light in the glass and redolent with aromas of pomegranate, cranberry, dried sage and mushroom ragù. Brisk and tight flavors of tart plum and underripe cherry are coated in an herbal tone of juniper throughout the sip. 93 points.”
