2010 Chardonnay - Bald Mountain Vineyard (Bonny Doon) - $35

A deep, rich and textured Chardonnay from one of the most unique vineyards in the Santa Cruz Mountains appellation, Ben Lomond Mountain sub-appellation. The wine expresses rich pineapple notes, with underpinnings of caramel and creme brulee imparted by 100% new convection toasted American oak. The 2010 crop only produced 1/2 ton per acre of fruit from the sandstone soil of this award-winning vineyard, which was made famous by our friend Beauregard Vineyards' 2008 Best of Class award ($50 and up) at the Chronicle competition. At only 1/2 ton per acre, the little bit of fruit you get is very intense and makes a Chardonnay like none other. A food-friendly wine that pairs wonderfully with fresh Salmon or Halibut and summer pesto. Only 48 cases were hand crafted. 14.3% alcohol by volume. pH 3.42. Aged 9 months sur lies in 100% new oak. Cooper: Odysé. Unfined and only lightly filtered. Harvest date: 10/21/10.

2010 Chardonnay - Split Rail Vineyard (Corralitos) - $35

A crisp, refreshing Summer Chardonnay for Chardonnay lovers who like crisp fruit without a heavy oak profile. Our 2010 Chardonnay from Split Rail Vineyard in Corralitos showcases fragrant hibiscus and passionfruit aromas over a bright mineral-rich base that's supported by essence of pear, honeysuckle and pineapple and just kissed by vanilla. The finish is incredibly long, making it a great standalone wine for long summer evenings in the hammock. Only 48 cases hand crafted. Alcohol 14.3% by volume. pH 3.32. Aged 9 months sur lies in 80% new convection toasted French and American oak. Cooper: Odysé. Unfined and very lightly filtered. Harvest date: 10/16/10.

2010 Pinot Noir, Split Rail Vineyard

David Bruce clone lends a silky texture and floral aromas to the earthy, spicebox base of Champagne/UCD clone 32 and Dijon clone 115. A totally unique California Pinot Noir with a rare mix of clones, made in a more Burgundian style: lighter-colored and layered with vibrant aromas of rose petal, strawberry and baking spice, with a deeply earthy redwood humus base. One longtime pinot noir grower has characterized barrel samples as "Spectacular! a 99! a sure winner! My palate tasted pure velvet, Pinot magic!"

Aged 10 months sur lies in 70% new French, Hungarian and American oak. 100 cases produced. Unfined and unfiltered. pH 3.65.
Coopers: Francois Freres, Odysé, Mistral.
