From the Santa Cruz Sentinel, April 25th, 2017:
It was probably inevitable that John Benedetti would become a winemaker.
Steeped in a history of food and wine from his Pescadero grocery family, connected to some of the best growers and winemakers in the Santa Cruz Mountains and infatuated with the taste of pinot noir and how to make it, Benedetti made his choice.
He sold his graphic arts, web development business Iluminada Design in 2014 to fund Sante Arcangeli Family Wines full time. After 15 years of technology work, making good money, owning a business and watching his client base explode, all Benedetti could think about was making pinot noir.
“I was infatuated with my wine making, and I didn’t really have a choice. I couldn’t do both at the level I was doing both. I had to pick,” he says. “I chose a gigantic pay cut, some debt and my family.”
